SCHOOL HISTORY

Baclaran Elementary School Unit 1 was first conceived in 1954 at Sta. Rita Extension when it started renting the buildings of Mr. Regino Calinisan. Although the site measured only 950 sq. m., this did not hamper the purpose of the people behind to provide an elementary education to cater the increasing number of children ready for elementary school. The newly founded school was managed by Miss Concordia Estanislao and followed by Mrs. Lorenza Cruz, Mr. Escario, Mr. Hermogenes Belsonda, and Mrs. Isabel Reyes.

In 1979-1989, during the term of Miss Macaria Espiritu, the school was transferred to Dimasalang Extension corner Pag-asa Street through the initiative of Miss Concordia Estanislao. The school continued dispensing quality education using its three (3) Bagong Lipunan Buildings.

Numerous principals of BES-I came in like Miss Jane Cabrera, Mrs. Gloria Baldemoro and Mrs. Leonarda Acuyong. It was during Mrs. Acuyong’s time (1992-1994), when the dream of having a two-storey building came to reality through the help of the local government.

Dr. Estrellita Cueto succeeded her and served the school from 1994-1998. It was during her administration that the three-storey building of the school was completed through the assistance of Congressman Hon.  Roilo Golez. An Anfra (school vehicle) with plate number SFG 733 was also endorsed to her by the congressman.

In the year 2000-2004, Mrs. Lucy Filio headed the school. It was during her time when the school was transferred to its present location at Pinaglabanan Street, within the vicinity of Baclaran Elementary School – Central. It was transferred to give way for the growing number of pupils. Dr. Rolando L. Magno was then the Schools Division Superintendent.

Mrs. Filio was then replaced by Mrs. Dolores C. Mateo, who served the school from June, 2005 to January 12, 2007. One of her major projects was the construction of a two-storey building with four (4) rooms. After her, Mrs. Dolora M. Zaragoza came in and during her time, the construction of the two-storey building was completed.

Another principal was appointed on June 29, 2009 in the person of Mrs. Teresita S. Rodriguez, who continued the project left behind by Mrs. Zaragoza, which was the construction of the stage. During her time, a new school vehicle was given by the City Government of Parañaque in March, 2010 to cater the increasing demand of the school and at the same time to replace the already over-used Anfra.

On September 25, 2012, Mrs. Zenaida G. Estrellado was appointed as the new principal of the school. She continued the projects and programs left behind by Mrs. Rodriguez. One of which was the completion of the four-storey nine-classroom building financed by the city government under Mayor Florencio M. Bernabe Jr.

On November 26, 2014, Mrs. Estrellado retired from service and a new principal in the person of Ms. Ma. Estrellita C. Arceo came by virtue of reassignment. But she stayed in the school only for four (4) days due to promotion as Public Schools District Supervisor.

Then Mrs. Maria Cristina N. Balbaboco was appointed as the officer-in-charge of the school on December 2, 2014.  She took her oath as a full-fledge Principal I after five (5) months of serving as officer-in-charge. She worked for the demolition of the two Rodriguez Buildings, Edza Building, and two kinder rooms to give way for the construction of a four-story building. In 2016, the 4- storey building with 20 classrooms was turn-over to cater to the escalating population of the school.

Baclaran Elementary School 1 is momentarily under the governance of Mrs. Agnes A. Pelovello. The school promptly caters to one thousand three hundred nine (1,309) pupils from kinder to grade VI. The school currently has forty-nine (49) regular teachers, three (3) Volunteer MADRASAH Education teachers, and fifteen (15) non-teaching personnel.

The school continues to implement the Basic Education Curriculum for Elementary Schools as prescribed by the Department of Education that is Kindergarten to Grade Six. The MADRASAH Education which is offered to Muslim learners is a part of the school’s program.  The subjects offered are Arabic Language and Islamic Values. Alternative Learning System (ALS) is also being offered in the school every Saturday. This education program is intended for Out-of-School-Youth (OSY) aged 15-30 years old. It also offers special programs like MTAP Saturday classes for the regular and talented pupils, Reading Program, School-Based Feeding Program (SBFP), National Greening Program, and other non-academic programs.

To ensure the health and safety of the school children, the school is implementing the following programs: Deworming, Vaccinations, Provision of Vitamin Supplements, Dental check-ups, Vision examinations, School-based Feeding, school misting/defogging, Earthquake Drills and conduct of lectures concerning health and safety precautions.

Some of the priority improvement projects were already realized such as the provision of Fire exit, PWD Ramp, improvised canteen, guidance office, clinic, MRF facility, bulletin boards, installation of SDRRMC Office, installation of ICT Room, improvement of Science room Library and Learning Resource Center, provision of CCTV facilities, transparency boards, school vegetable garden and others.

The school is getting support from different stakeholders like the Local Government Unit, Barangay Community, GPTA, Private Institutions/companies such as Jollibee, Mac Donald’s, Max Restaurant, BDO, City Savings, NGO’s like the Bridge Builder Foundation which is helping our street children pupils by providing them educational sponsorship. For more than sixty-six years (66) years of providing access to quality education, BES1 continues to improve its services to further equip learners with skills that will nourish them to be productive members of society.
